A colleague and I were talking recently talking about Chia Pets (of all things). Did you know that the Chia Pet people are selling a Barack Obama Chia Pet? They market the Chi-Obama as part of a set commemmorating "Three Great American Presidents and a Well Known American Icon". The set includes a Chia George Washington (I can not tell a lie), Chi-Abe Lincoln, Chi-Obama, and Chia Statue of Liberty. Makes a great gift. Collect the whole set!
The absurdity does not end there, rather, as each Chia president is displayed, they also give a tag-line. President Obama's tagline is "Peace, Hope, Prosperity". PROSPERITY??? Unfortunately, the only thing growing under Obamanomics is the chia grass on his terra-cotta head. What are we commemorating, exactly? On the other hand, what do I care who they commemorate with a chia head -- really.
If I were the CEO of Joseph Enterprises (makers of the Chia empire) I would have gone for the much more obvious Chia-President hybrid, the Chia Bush. Does any president lend himself to Chia-representation better than President Bush or his father?
I suppose if I did have to make a Chi-Obama at this early stage in his presidency, I would play off of his recent acceptance of the Nobel Peace Prize. I would call it the Nobel Peas Prize. Can we grow miniature pea pods on a terra-cotta substrate?
