My family recently spent time at the Global Wildlife Center in Folsom, Louisiana. We were visiting the area to celebrate my father's 60th birthday. We had a blast. The GWC has thousands of animals over hundreds of acres and visitors take tours to meet and feed the animals. The animals know you are there to feed them and they are eager to be fed.
Our time there made such an impression, that we commemorated the event in pictures and paintings. Below are some pictures from me and from my son:
One of the most exciting animal groups are the cattle. Watusi cattle stick their heads in your tour vehicle, stretch out their 17 inch tongues, and demand a cup full of feed. My interpretation:
and my son's interpretation. Notice the yellow corn being fed to the cow.
My son's favorite animal is the giraffe. He was thrilled to be so close to them that he could pet them and feed them. They stuck their heads inside our vehicle. At one point, the tour was all giraffe heads and people's butts. His painting of a giraffe:
Most depictions of giraffes focus on their long necks. His interpretation focuses on the giant head inches away from him. The neck being nowhere to be seen. Here is another perspective of the event:
If you find yourself on or near the Louisiana Gulf Coast, it is well worth the time and expense to visit the GWC. On your way out, be sure to stop in Mandeville to eat lunch at Another Beautiful Day or have dinner at Trey Yuen.
