Did you know that today, July 2nd, is actually the day that the Declaration of Independence was signed? John Adams assumed the 2nd of July would be celebrated as the birthday of our Independence. Of course, things moved slowly for our government even before it was born.
This weekend, July 4th, is celebrated in America as Independence Day. We have a barbecue, hang a flag or dress in red/white/blue, light some fireworks, and hopefully send our guests home with a designated driver. Too many Americans think that is the sum total of the story. Much of our Nation (and virtually all of the media) neglect to ponder the rich history behind this day and why we celebrate.

I am not reading Glenn Beck's Common Sense. It's not that I don't want to, rather, I can not find it anywhere. Instead, I am listening to it on Audio Book.
Mr. Beck's premise--may I call you Glenn? Glenn's premise is that our country is in trouble and politicians and power brokers keep the general public distracted from the real problem by pointing fingers at each other. They (the political & Wall Street elites) keep us busy arguing over minor issues while they steer our country out of it's greatness--trading our liberty for a false sense of security.
Cho-Mos. That's what they call them in prison; cho-mos.
This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. John 3:19 NASB
Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. Romans 1:22-27 NASB
Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Phillipians 2:3-4 NASB
My church, Woodmen Valley Chapel, is working through a series of messages on worship. The theme centers on the definition of worship as:
Supreme Court Justice Nominee, Sonia Sotomayor, is set for review by the Senate Judiciary Committee. On the plus side, her advocates want to focus on her life story and her background:
Perhaps much should be made of her comments. One does not need a Psychology degree to figure out that she means what she said about making policy from the bench. Notice in the video, that when she catches herself and realizes what she said, she does not retract her statement with strength and clarity. Rather, she makes light of her statement recognizing that she should not have said it on tape, "you know."
She says she would judge with empathy, which sounds nice if you are a defendant. But isn't justice supposed to be blind and impartial?
Supreme Court Justices serve lifetime appointments. A justice on the bench who does not understand the basic separation of powers as provided by the constitution can not exercise appropriate judgment when interpreting the constitution. By her record and her own admission, Justice Sotomayor sees the constitution and the American rule of law as nothing more than a basis for change, a platform on which she can stand to establish policy. If she wants to be a legislator, she should run for office where she can be held accountable by her constituents. The judicial bench is not the place to establish public policy. An examination of her record and her personal philosophy easily supports the assessment that this justice is not Supreme Court material.
Recent news reports claim that, once again, the missing link has been found. This time, the bones of a lemur-like lower primate are supposed to seal Darwin's case for good. The fossil has been named "Ida" (pronounced Ē-da). The cat-sized collection of bones has been touted as the "8th Wonder of the World" but even staunch evolutionists are concerned about the hype.

It's springtime and my plants have finally started to act like it. I have posted some pictures of animals & flowers in my Zenfolio account. Some were taken in my yard, and others were taken in the Rocky Mountain National Park, like this young male moose:

My grandmother would visit once or twice a year. I enjoyed her visits for many reasons, but particularly because I got to stay up late. Whether the visit was summer or Christmas time, bed-time was a thing of myth and late night talks were the norm. She would tell stories and then listen to my stories. She would ask me deep, weighty questions and tell silly jokes.
She told me she used to like to pick on the neighborhood kids. She grew Chinese hot peppers, then she would bet the neighborhood boys a nickel that they could not eat a whole one. As the boy's head would figuratively burst in to flame, she would chuckle. To my knowledge, she never lost a nickel.
Flirtation
by Beverly Sims Moore
The wind whistled at a cloud passing by
Gently floating onward into the sky
The Moonbeams danced rapturously in a ray of light
And shining stars twinkled in secret delight
At this gay escapade of our friends by the night
As lady dawn comes into view
Fresh with the kiss of morning dew
The loveliness of the night
Slowly changed into day
And the sun laughed as it came out to play
